How to Smoke a Cigar Like a Bad-Ass

You just spent $10+ on a top cigar.

Yes, you bought it to enjoy it, but you also did it because of how much of a bad-ass you look like when you’re smoking it.

Don’t blow it by not knowing how to smoke a cigar properly.

Bad-Ass Cigar Smokers

Before we get into how to properly smoke a cigar like a bad-ass, let’s pay homage to three bad-ass cigar smokers.

This list is in no specific order.

All of these guys are bad-asses without smoking cigars, but having cigars in their mouths couldn’t look any cooler.

#1 Bad-Ass Cigar Smoker: Winston Churchill

First of all, we should recognize the a size of cigars were named after this man: Churchill.

Churchills are typically 7 inches long with a ring size of 48 or 50. Clearly made for a bad-ass cigar smoker.

Winston Churchill was the prime minsiter of England and led it through World War II.

Churchill was known to smoke 7-8 cigars per day.

#2 Bad-Ass Cigar Smoker: Arnold Schwarzenegger

Mr. Universe, 7-time Mr. Olympia, action movie star, and former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger is an easy pick for this list.

Do we have to expand on this?

No.

#3 Bad-Ass Cigar Smoker: Michael Jordan

6-Time NBA champion, 6-time NBA Finals MVP, 5-time MVP, 1-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, 2-time Olympic Gold Medal Winner and on and on.

Something that is surprising is that he was able to be on top of his game and be an avid cigar smoker. He is such a cigar enthusiast that his mansion includes a cigar room.

While Jordan said his favorite is Partagas, he did mention that he does like variety.

#4 Bad-Ass Cigar Smoker: Tony Montana

Yes, Tony Montana is a fictional character, but he’s one of the most memorable and quoted characters from one of the greatest movies, “Scarface.”

“Say hello to my little fren-!”

Put this movie on in any decade and it appeals to anyone (OK, not your friend who is offended by everything).

It's Easy to Smoke a Cigar Like a Bad-Ass

Be familiar with the different parts of a cigar.

How to Cut a Cigar

The first step to smoking a cigar like you’re a bad-ass is cutting it properly.

We recommend using a guillotine cutter. Use a quick motion to close the blades to easily cut your cigar.

How to Light a Cigar

The second step to smoking a cigar like you’re a bad-ass is lighting it properly.

With the cigar in your hand (and not in your mouth) toast the exposed tobacco with the lighter.

Next, put the cigar in your moth and rotate the cigar while you puff to draw the flame on top the foot of the cigar. Your cigar will be ready to smoke when the entire foot is lit.

How to Hold a Cigar

There are three common ways to hold a cigar:

  • Classic
  • Three Finger
  • Two Finger

The best way to hold a cigar is the one that is most comfortable for you.

It takes around 45 minutes to smoke an average cigar, so you want to be comfortable.

Also, you’ll look more relaxed and natural if your grip is comfortbale.

How to Smoke a Cigar

Now that you have a comfortable grip take a slow puff.

Don’t inhale the smoke.

Let the smoke sit on your tongue for a few seconds to maximize the taste then blow it out.

Rotate your cigar to avoid burning issues.

1 puff per minute.

If you smoke too fast the tars will build up and you won’t have an enjoyable smoke, but if you smoke too slow, the cigar will go out.
