Appearance of Don Carlos Robusto
The velvety, red box speaks volumes of the elegance of the cigar. With the logo of Arturo Fuente in the middle of the box, it says a lot about its founder, too. The writing below the logo shows, ‘Carlos Fuente’ in italics, then, ‘Our Father, Our Friend, Our Hero….’
The cigar’s band is golden with lines that are embossed liked rays around the logo. There is little oil on the wrapper with minimal veins.
As typical of Arturo Fuente’s, the cigar has excellent construction, and there are no lumps.
Smoking Experience
The cold draw already shows a milky chocolate sweetness.
On the first puffs, the cigar has a strong cedar and earth flavor. During this first third, the creaminess of the cigar expresses cedar, cocoa, and espresso notes—great aroma with the retrohale showing some spice.
In the second third, the earthy flavors remain the same. The mild pepper in the background goes higher by a little at the middle, but the medium body is intact.
In the final third, the earthy flavors recede for a little bit. There is cinnamon flavor upfront, while the pepper hits a milder note with a gentle retrohale. Some coffee notes and nuttiness were also present in the background.
The smoke output throughout the smoking session was just right. The burn is not perfect, but the ash was holding up fine.
Overall
Creaminess and sweetness are the strong points of the cigar. There are plenty of flavors to enjoy, but you would appreciate how the body is consistent and smooth. It is also aromatic, and there is no bitter strength in the taste. The earthy blend of cocoa, coffee, and mild spices is perfect. Don Carlos Robusto is a good cigar to unwind on the weekend or start the day with some coffee. Props as well to the heritage that you can enjoy from Don Carlos Robusto. This is a cigar that honors its founder. I give it an 89.
